What Tilton School told us
The students who thrive at Tilton are the ones who want to be involved. They don't have to be the best athlete, the smartest student, or the most outgoing person in the room—they simply have to be willing to engage, try new things, and grow.
The one thing every new family should know before arriving at Tilton is that becoming part of the community happens quickly — but it requires students to be willing to engage. Tilton is a place where students are truly known. Because our community is intentionally small, students build meaningful relationships with their classmates, teachers, advisors, coaches, and dorm parents. The more a student puts themselves out there — trying a new activity, introducing themselves to someone new, asking for help, or getting involved on campus — the more they will get out of their experience.
The biggest surprise for families visiting campus is the sense of connection. People often expect a small boarding school to feel quiet or limited, but they quickly discover a vibrant community where students are constantly engaging with one another — through athletics, clubs, campus traditions, weekend activities, and everyday life together. Tilton’s size is actually its greatest strength: students have the resources and opportunities of a boarding school experience while still being known personally by the people around them.
